NORWALK, Conn., Oct 24 --Norwalk Emergency Shelter, Inc.'s (NES) mission is to effectively address the complex needs of the homeless and working poor. To provide safe, sanitary shelter care, food, clothing, and furniture to needy men, women, and families; assist shelter residents in attaining housing, jobs, counseling and various treatment services; provide transitional, affordable, and permanent supportive housing; and to foster residents' growth toward independence and responsibility.
NES is the only emergency shelter and has the only soup kitchen in Norwalk. Consequently, our 95-bed facility has either been at full capacity or beyond for the past three years. Therefore, we have arranged to nightly accommodate homeless individuals at our local overflow facility.

Our Outreach Program takes our Case Managers into the community with the Norwalk Police to locate and encourage homeless individuals living on the streets to come into the Shelter for services. Additionally, NES employs a Housing Coordinator who assists families that are homeless or living in.......

The Norwalk Emergency Shelter and the Manna House of Hospitality are open three hundred sixty five days a year. The shelter sleeps ninety-five people and offers case management services to all that stay at the shelter as well as anyone else in the community in need. The Manna House serves three meals a day, every day of the year. This translates to over 12,000 meals served monthly.
