COMMUNITY OUTREACH

Although many homeless know of the Shelter's existence, some will avoid it and continue to live in unsafe, unsanitary conditions. Putting in extra hours accompanied by a community police officer, caseworkers canvass locations where homeless individuals have been sleeping, and endeavor to convince them to take refuge at the Shelter.

"When a homeless individual gets to know a caseworker, comes to eat, takes a shower, sees the facility, it establishes a trust to come in off the street."

-Deputy Chief Mark Palmer

The Norwalk Emergency Shelter and the Manna House of Hospitality are open three hundred sixty five days a year. The shelter sleeps ninety-five people and offers case management services to all that stay at the shelter as well as anyone else in the community in need. The Manna House serves three meals a day, every day of the year. This translates to over 12,000 meals served monthly.
